Types of French Language Tests:

There are numerous language tests in order to determine the level of French Language ability of individuals. In case of Quebec Immigration purposes, the only listening and speaking ability of individuals checked. 5 types of French language Tests are explained below.

1. TEF (Test d'Evaluation du Francais )
2. TEFAQ (Test d'evaluation du francais adapte pour le Quebec)
3. TCF (Test de connaissance du francais)
4. TCFAQ (Test de connaissance du francais pour le Quebec)
5. DELF (Diplome d'etudes en langue francaise) and the DALF (Diplome approfondi de langue francaise):

1. TEF (Test d'Evaluation du Francais ):

TEF is a test which is useful to assess the level of expression of skills in people who are not native to the French speakers. In this test, applicants ranked on the six levels from A1 to C2. This test aims at Quebec Immigration purposes, and it is the only test which is helpful for the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

TEF contains 3 Compulsory sections.

Reading and comprehension: this score does not consider by the Quebec Immigration program. It includes the 50 Questions and 60 minutes duration.

Vocabulary & Sentence Structure: This score is also not considered by the Quebec Immigration Program. This section consists of 40 Questions and Duration will be 30 Minutes.

Listening Comprehension: This section includes 60 Questions and 60 minutes are the time duration for this section.

TEF includes 2 optional sections:

Written Expression: This section is mainly helpful to assess the candidate's written ability to convey use information, use past tenses and expressing arguments. Quebec immigration program does not consider this score. The time duration for this section is 60 minutes.

Oral Expression: This section includes two brief interviews with examiner. In this section candidate have to talk something about the given topic. Time duration is 35 minutes.

2. TEFAQ (Test d'evaluation du francais adapte pour le Quebec):

TEFAQ is a test which aims to check the French proficiency of the individual's. This test is mainly targets on the Quebec immigrations. Applicants have to take any French language test approved by the Quebec Government.

This test includes 2 sections:

Oral Comprehension (Listening): This section includes 60 questions and duration will be 40 minutes Oral Expression: This section includes 2 topics with 35 minutes.

The overall time required to conduct this test is 1hr 15 minutes.

3. TCF (Test de connaissance du francais):

TCF is language test, which helpful to evaluate, the levels of French expression skills in individuals who are not native to France. In this test, applicants graded from A1 level to C2 level. Mainly this test utilized for the Quebec immigration purposes.

TEF includes 3 compulsory sections and two optional sections.

Compulsory sections:

Reading comprehension: This section contains 30 multiple choice questions and duration for this section are 45 minutes.

Use of Language structures: This section includes 20 multiple choice questions and allotted time will be 20 minutes.

Listening comprehensions: This section consists of 30 multiple choice questions, and duration is 25 minutes.

The overall time allocated to conduct this TCF test is 1hr 30 minutes.

Supplementary sections

This section includes two types of test such as
Spoken expression: For Spoken Expression, time duration will be 15 minutes.
Written Expression: whereas, for Written expression, the duration time will be 45 minutes.
Overall time to complete this section is 1 hour.

4. TCFAQ (Test de connaissance du francais pour le Quebec)

TCFAQ is a significant examination mainly designed for people who want to Immigrate to Quebec. As it mainly targets on the Quebec immigration, individuals can take the TCF or any other French Language Test recognized by the government of Quebec. The results of the TCFQ graded as per the Quebec Skilled worker Program.

TCFQ consists of two types of tests:

Listening Comprehension:

This section consists of 30 Questions, and Duration is 30 minutes.

Spoken Expression:

This section includes 6 Questions and 15 minutes duration.

5. DELF (Diplome d'etudes en langue francaise) and the DALF (Diplome approfondi de langue francaise):

DELF and DALF are the two French examinations conducted to proving the ability of French language. These two consists of six diplomas. French Ministry of education awards these diplomas to the candidates and certifies the level of English proficiency of the individuals. DELF examinations are conducting in 4 levels such as, A1 and A2 (Beginner) and B1 and B2 (Intermediate).

The DALF examinations are conducting in two individual levels they are, C1 and C2 (Advanced).

Each examination is different, and the applicant can register for any level of examination whatever they choose. This, each examination intended to assess the reading, speaking, writing and listening abilities of the individuals. For Quebec immigration, only Listening and speaking skills needed.

DELF/DALF contains:

Listening ability:

A1 Level: Candidates have to listen to recordings and they should provide answers for the everyday life. Time duration is 20 minutes.
A2 level: Listening to recordings and giving reply to the everyday life. Time duration is 25 minutes.
B1 Level: Candidates have to listen to recordings and they should provide answers for the everyday life.25 minutes time duration.
B2 Level: Listen to recordings and provide answers on numerous topics. The time duration is 30 minutes.
C1 Level: Listen to recordings and answer questions on various topics.40 minutes time duration.

Speaking ability

Level A1: This level includes three part testing exchanging information, role-play, and guided conversation. Time duration is 5 to 7 minutes.
Level A2: This level includes three part testing exchanging information, role-play, and guided conversation. Time duration is 6 to 8 minutes.
Level B1: This level includes three part testing exchanging information, role-play, and guided conversation. Time duration is 15 minutes.
Level B2: stating and defending on a short document. Time duration is 20 minutes.
Level C1: candidates have to give a presentation on written documents and discussion with the examiner. The time duration is 30 minutes.

Listening/Speaking abilities

Level C2:

This level consists of 3 sections. Writing content on recording regarding humanities or social studies/science, personal development depending on the problem explained in the recording and having debate with examiners. The time duration is 90 minutes.
