Canada: Alberta, B.C. and Manitoba perform well in August Jobs Report

As per the recent Labor Force Survey British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba added jobs in August 2018. The monthly analysis of Statistics Canada shows that these three provinces contributed 30,000 jobs.

The Other provinces registering a gain were Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland & Labrador.

At the National level the unemployment rate in August from was 6 percent, and the overall jobs figures recorded a loss of 50,000.

This decline came after two months of gains because there was a decline in part-time employment of 92,000. On the other hand there was an increase in full-time employment.

In the past 12 months, employment increased by 172,000, and there was an increase of 326,000 in full-time employment. This positive feature was offset by the decline in part-time of 154,000.

  • Software Engineers and Developers, and
  • IT Project Managers

in August There was no  change in the core working age-group of people in the 25 to 54 year-range. The unemployment figure increased because many people searched for work.

Furthermore, there was a decline in the 55 and above age-group, even though in the past 12 month’s employment in this scale increased by 56,000.

Performance of Canada’s Provinces

Alberta was the best-performing province in August and added 16,200 jobs. The province also has impressive figures of adding 53,000 jobs in the past 12 months. Its unemployment rate is 6.7 percent.

In British Columbia, the increase in employment was 9,900. The increase in unemployment rate was because many people searched for work. The province has a low unemployment of 5.3 percent. Also Manitoba, added 2,600 jobs and its unemployment rate was 5.8 percent.

Best Performing Industries in Canada
