Changes in Quebec immigration take effect from August 2

Starting from August 2nd, Quebec province plans to introduce several changes to its immigration system. This was tweeted by David Heurtel immigration minister Quebec. There is also anticipation that the changes will include introducing a system that is similar to the Express Entry for managing applications. Additionally it will process the applications at a faster pace.

New Rules

On July 3rd, Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion officially accepted some changes, and the date announced was August 2nd, 2018. Additionally, Quebec will reduce the processing time for 31,000 immigrants to 12 months. Presently it stands at 32 months.

Quebec Skilled Worker introduces a new system 

The new guidelines require candidates for submitting an EOI, similar to Express Entry. Candidates who have a desirable EOI will receive the invitation for submitting applications to get the CSQ. After completing twelve months, in case of non selection of a person’s EOI it becomes invalid and will face removal from the pool.

Presently, the QSW program uses a point-grid for assessing the candidates. A candidate gets certain points based on the education, age, and work experience. The candidates who meet fixed minimum points can submit the application to the program.

Quebec Business Immigration Changes

Even The Business Classes of immigration will feel the impact of the proposed changes particularly, the Quebec Investor Class requires applicants to have an impressive financial profile.

In the past, investors had to meet the requirement of personal net worth of $1.6 million CAD. Moreover, they needed investing $800,000 CAD in Quebec for 5 years. In the new regulations investors have to meet the personal net worth of $2 million and invest $1.2 million.

The province has also announced that it is not accepting any applications for Quebec Entrepreneur, Quebec Investor, and Quebec Self-Employed until August 15th, 2018. Furthermore, after this date, the government will release additional updates regarding these programs for the remaining part of the year. It is a possibility that after August 15th the province will accept fresh applications,.

The Quebec Entrepreneur and Quebec Self-Employed programs are presently closed and do not accept new applications. The QIIP was open to new applications until February 2018.
